3 Star Lock, Gearbox Replacement, & Door Re-Alignment

We had a customer in Bury contact us as they had recently moved into their new house😁🏠

We always enjoy helping out when people move houses, & this customer wisely chose to change the locks, along with asking us to have a look at their front door as it was stiff to use.

It’s a good job they got in contact when they did, as on further inspection we discovered that the gearbox was very close to failing, the door was largely out of alignment, & the locking cylinder itself had suffered some damage, proving rather tough to lock.

This damage is unfortunately very common & is something we see every day here at OpenDoor Locksmiths. It usually always stems from the door being misaligned which is rather easy to overlook when life is busy. However, when your door is out of alignment, the hooks & rollers of the mechanism are being forced against the strikeplate with a lot of pressure, which is then transferred through the small gears & mechanisms inside the main gearbox.

On this occasion, the door misalignment had damaged the gearbox, which then caused the locking cylinder to absorb most of the force, eventually breaking it aswell.
